signs your oil pressure sensor is bad and detection method
Theoretically, if the engine oil light is on, it means that the engine oil pressure is not enough. However, there are many reasons for the insufficient engine oil pressure. The engine oil is insufficient. When the engine oil is insufficient, the oil pump does not have enough supply, which will lead to low engine oil pressure. Stop the engine at this time, and wait for 5-10 minutes to let the oil flow back to the oil pan, and then measure the oil volume. If the oil is really insufficient, add it to the specified scale in time. If the oil scale is normal, it means that it is not caused by insufficient oil, and further inspection is required.
The detection method is also very simple. Unplug the sensor plug at idle speed, and first measure whether there is a short circuit between the sensor harness and the ECU. Then step on the accelerator and measure its output voltage with a multimeter. If the voltage changes with the throttle and the voltage value is within the normal range, the fault can be basically eliminated. If the output voltage does not change or the output voltage is obviously different from the normal value after stepping on the accelerator, it indicates that the sensor is faulty.
Oil pump failure If there is no shortage of oil and the oil pressure sensor is normal, the problem of the oil pump should be considered. The role of the oil pump is to increase the oil pressure to ensure full lubrication of the internal parts of the engine. The inspection method is to remove the oil pressure sensor, and then connect the special equipment to measure the actual oil pressure. If the pressure is normal, it can be determined that the oil pump is OK. If the pressure is abnormal, the oil pump is damaged. When the oil sludge blocks the oil filter element or the oil pump filter screen (strainer) of the oil pan, the oil pressure is too low, and the oil lamp will also light up. Moreover, a large amount of sludge will increase the oil viscosity. When the oil viscosity is too high, the oil lamp will also alarm. Generally, the engine oil sludge is the common reason for the engine oil lamp to light up when there is no shortage of engine oil.
