Boat hour meter,what is hour meter gauge, also known as timer, is a device that records the elapsed time. They are usually used to measure the running time of the equipment for maintenance.

Marine engine manufacturers arrange regular maintenance of their motors according to the number of hours used. Merccruiser inboard engine oil should be changed every 100 hours. For several models of Evinrude outboard machine, it is recommended to adjust the engine every 500 hours. However, many ship manufacturers do not include engine hour meters in the instrument kits of their ships. If this is the case with your ship, adding an hour meter will ensure that you can maintain your ship's power plant on time.

How to connect:

1:Find the rear of the ship's ignition switch. The instrument can be placed anywhere, but will eventually be connected to the ignition switch. Installing the timer near the ignition switch will help the wiring work in the future.Use a 12 volt test lamp to determine which wire at the rear of the ignition switch is energized when the key is in the run position.

2:Turn the ignition key to "on" or "run". Connect the grounding clip of the test lamp to the metal stud or frame connected to the ship's electrical grounding system. Touch each wire connection at the rear of the ignition switch to see which one is energized.

3:Turn the ignition switch to the off position, then turn the ignition switch to the accessory position again (if equipped) and touch the same wire. Power shall be supplied to the wire only when the key is in the running position; When the key is in any other position, it should not be energized.

4:Use the Scotch lock wire connector to connect the hot wire (usually red) on the back of the timer to the running wire on the back of the ignition switch.

Connect the ground wire (usually black) on the back of the instrument to the ship's grounding system. To do this, use a Scottish lock to connect the wire to another ground wire, or use a suitable solderless connector to connect it to the ground stud.
