Boat's power is a complex project , which is mainly composed of four parts : power generation , distribution , transmission and power consumption , and power generation is the core of power system . Especially in the ship navigation , whether the output voltage can be kept stable or not , the automatic voltage stabilizing device in the generator set has become the key equipment . When the main engine is running , there are several navigation conditions of slow speed, medium speed and full speed . In this way, the speed of the generator changes in the range of 1450 ~ 1750 ~ 2100 rpm . However , the terminal voltage of the generator also changes constantly . If the output voltage of the generator is to be stabilized in a specified range , the purpose should be achieved by constantly adjusting the magnetic field rheostat .

When the boat voltage gauge not working , it is suggested to check the excitation system . If there is an excitation coil inside , you can check whether the excitation coil has voltage and whether the generated voltage can be sent to the excitation circuit .

Causes and maintenance methods of low generator voltage .

1. Prime mover speed is too low . Adjust the prime mover speed to the rated value .

2. The resistance of excitation circuit is too large .

Reduce the resistance of the field rheostat to increase the excitation current. For semiconductor excitation generator , check whether the additional winding connector is broken or wrongly connected .

3. The exciter brush is not in the neutral line position, or the spring pressure is too small . Adjust the brush to the correct position, replace the brush and adjust the spring pressure .

4. Some rectifier diodes are broken down. Check and replace the broken down diode .

5. There is a short circuit or grounding fault in the stator winding or excitation winding . Check the fault and clear it .

6. The contact surface of the brush is too small , the pressure is insufficient, and the contact is poor .

If the surface of the commutator is not smooth , polish the surface of the commutator with emery cloth or adjust the spring pressure at low speed .
