The water temperature on the chevy 350 is generally displayed by the instrument , but the source of data (signal) is usually provided directly or indirectly by two types of temperature sender sensors on common vehicles at present . Therefore , we can not simply talk about "water temperature gauge sensor" , but only several "types" of electric water temp gauge sensors , and how to make the instrument display correct water temperature parameters or data . The more common two types are :

One type is : the current (signal) passing through the meter changes randomly through the change of internal resistance value, and is directly displayed on the instrument panel after being processed by the current signal and the internal circuit of the instrument . This type of electric water temp gauge sender generally has a working voltage of 12V . Most of them are first-line models , but it is not ruled out that there are second-line models . The specific design depends on the actual model .

A wire is connected to the electronic control unit (ECU) . It is somewhat similar to the first type , that is to say , the automatic collection signal of ECU determines the fuel injection quantity , including the collection of temperature sensor signal . The signal returned to the control unit usually varies between 1.3V and 3.8V (linear signal) . After active calculation by ECU , the analog signal is converted into digital signal and the temperature parameter is directly displayed through the instrument . The working voltage of this kind of sensor is generally about 5V .

The above two types of water temperature sensors are not universal, and the wiring is different. The first kind of common "one wire" type is directly used for the identification signal of the internal circuit of the instrument . The latter is generally two wires, and one wire is specially used for the ECU wire. However , with the development of the automobile industry , the latter has three or four wires . For example , some automatic air conditioners also need to be collected separately through the air conditioning module. Therefore , it is not possible to talk about several wires in a general way , and it is necessary to refer to the relevant design standards of the actual vehicle models.
