how to install a car fuel level sensor

To install a car oil level sensor, first open the fuel tank filler neck, observe or test the approximate position of the fuel tank sensor and internal partition with a wooden rod and tree branches. After determining the position, use a drill bit to drill a hole in the fuel tank, and then place the sensor into the fuel tank from the filler neck. Clamp the wire harness end of the sensor with iron wire, and apply anti oil glue around the hole to prevent oil leakage. Screw on the large nut, then connect the wire, apply sealant, and tighten the cover.

Automobile oil fuel level sensor, also known as oil level sensor or water level sensor. Its working principle is to use the magnetic field generated by ferrite magnets to control the on-off of the reed switch contacts, convert the changes in the measured liquid level into electrical signals, and connect them to the secondary instrument to detect the height of the liquid level.

There are two types of oil level sensors: one is to use a sliding potentiometer as the basic detection element, drive the potentiometer through a float, and then use an ohmmeter to detect its resistance, thereby achieving the purpose of displaying the oil level. But when oil stains cover the potentiometer, its resistance will change, resulting in excessive error and even inability to use, making this type of fuel tank sensor a vulnerable component with a shorter lifespan. Another method is to use an inductive coil as the basic detection element. It uses a float to drive an inductance coil to change the oscillation frequency of the oscillation circuit, and then uses a frequency meter to detect its frequency to measure the oil level.

Most car oil level sensors are basically installed inside the car fuel tank. Before disassembling the fuel level sensor, use a manual pump or siphon method to drain the fuel from the fuel tank. Remove the negative battery cable. Remove the trunk carpet and remove the fuel tank gasket retainer. Unplug the electrical wire connector from the sensor. Loosen the cap nut and then extract the fuel level sensor upwards and backwards from the fuel tank. Install in the reverse order of disassembly. It is worth noting that when installing the cover nut, two type sealing rings should be placed, and ensure that the lugs on the sensor flange face are downward.
