Gas gauge reading empty. just replaced fuel level sensor and still doing the same chevy truck:There are three reasons for the failure that the fuel gauge does not indicate:

①The fuel sensor or circuit is faulty.
②The fuel gauge is not powered.
③The oil meter is faulty. The first fault has been checked by replacing the sensor and fuel line. You can also directly connect the special variable resistor V.A.G1301 to the 3rd pin

of the 26-pin red plug of the instrument panel (or use a 0~1000ohm ordinary potentiometer and use a multimeter instead), the other end of the potentiometer is grounded, and twist the potentiometer. Rotate and observe whether the fuel gauge needle swings, if it swings, it can be judged that the sensor or circuit is faulty. The second fault inspection Remove the instrument panel, and measure the voltage between the positive and negative poles of the fuel gauge, which should be 9.75~10.25V. After replacing the fuel gauge, it is necessary to check whether the indicated value of the fuel gauge is accurate. Unplug the sensor plug, connect the V.A.G1301 between the wire and the ground wire, adjust the resistance to 550Ω, the pointer of the fuel gauge should point to the number "80", and the fuel tank is full at this time. 0 ~ 1000Ω potentiometer can also be used for detection.

Debris in the fuel tank. At present, the core of all oil floats on the market is exposed, that is, the two contacts on the scribe and the white ceramic substrate. You can see the one on the scribe and the bottom by swinging the float rod. The exposure is in the fuel tank, or soaked in the liquid added to the fuel tank. Due to the frequent refueling of the car, there will be more debris brought into the fuel tank, and the resistance part of the oil level sensor will be contaminated by debris.

The fuel level sensor is always energized. The oil float has two lines that lead to the fuel gauge on the instrument panel. Of course, when the instrument panel is powered on, the oil float is powered on. Therefore, one side of the oil float is in a very bad environment, and the other side is still electrified. After a long time, a thin film will form on the two contacts of the oil float and the surface of the white substrate resistor sheet, which is serious. It will corrode the conduction band on the white substrate. There are many conduction bands on the white substrate (most of them are more than 35). If one is broken, the oil gauge in the cab will not indicate normal.The oil gauge scale suddenly rises. This situation is mainly due to the fact that the connecting rod between the oil level sensor and the float is stuck, so that the float cannot float up and down normally, so that the sensor will not change, so the oil gauge pointer is fixed at a certain location.
