how does rudder angle indicator work

The rudder angle indicator is an instrument that can indicate the actual rudder angle. It is equipped with lighting equipment and engraved with 350 on the left and right. It can check the accuracy and sensitivity of the steering device, and directly guide the steering action during manual steering . The rudder angle indicator indicates the actual rudder angle at any time .

The rudder angle indicator is composed of a potentiometer in the transmitter and a millivolt meter marked as the rudder angle scale. When the rudder drives the contact of the transmitter potentiometer to rotate , the resistance of the two arms of the potentiometer changes, causing the pointer of the receiver to turn to the corresponding position to indicate the actual rudder angle . Feed back the actual rotation of the rudder to the cab , rudder cabin and main engine compartment . The error of the electric rudder angle indicator is generally very small , as long as the error is recorded .

However , when in use , "rudder angle indicator position" must meet the following requirements:

1. When the main steering gear is operated by power, it shall be indicated in the cab, and the indication of rudder angle shall be independent of the control system of the steering gear;

2. It can be seen in the steering gear room and the main engine compartment;

3. Within the specified steering range, the indication error of the rudder angle indicator at large rudder angle shall be electric, and the error between the given rudder angle and the rudder angle feedback value shall not be greater than ± 10, and the central position shall comply with 121 . If there is any abnormal phenomenon , find out the cause, eliminate it and try again until it is normal .

The rudder angle indicator is a self-tuning machine, with transmitter and receiver. One transmitter on board has eight receivers. The transmitter has five wires, two excitation wires, three three three-phase wires with phase and three receiving wires. Their adjustment is mainly consistent with the mechanical zero of the rudder . Loosen the fixed rose of the transmitter or receiver , and then fix it after adjustment . If you turn the left rudder to instruct the right rudder to change any two of the three receiving wires , it is very simple.
