how to install a tachometer on a chevy 350

Chevy 350 tachometers are generally pointer type instruments, with very few being digital. They reflect the engine crankshaft speed per minute, with the unit name being revolutions per minute. Most designs of automobile tachometers are the same, usually multiplying the indicated number of the tachometer by one thousand or one hundred to obtain the chevy 350 engine speed per minute. The relationship between vehicle speed and speed is not one-to-one, but mainly depends on the speed ratio of the gearbox. Usually, we can see that the working range of the pointer is a white area, and at the end of the pointer, it is generally a red area. Red represents danger. Obviously, if our tachometer pointer enters the red area, it means that the chevy 350 engine is running in this speed range and it is harmful to it.

This type of tachometer that does not use a soft axis is used to measure speed through the igniter, which connects the wiring of the tachometer to the connection line between the igniter and the high-voltage package, and calculates the engine speed by measuring its ignition frequency. The flexible shaft is installed on the cylinder head and driven by the camshaft or by the gear shaft installed in the box and driven by the crankshaft.

After connecting the positive and negative poles of the tachometer, connect an ignition coil signal wire to the outside of the ignition coil and connect it to the instrument panel. The wiring of most tachometers is connected to the power supply line from the igniter to the high-voltage package. It is clever to first remove the seat cushion, and then follow the spark plug cap and high-voltage package on the right side of the chevy 350 engine cylinder head to find the high-voltage package. Associate the tachometer wire with the high-voltage package power line, and the high-voltage package usually only has one wire.

If it is a digital tachometer, first you need to remove the load end. Power on the motor and measure the speed of the motor end with a tachometer. Next, measure the speed of the reducer output shaft. If the speed of the chevy 350 is consistent with the speed of the output shaft, compare the tachometer. If the tachometer is different from the actual speed, adjust the accurate value displayed by the tachometer potentiometer, and then connect the load, which is the speed you really need.
