BMW X3 fuel tank is a saddle type fuel tank with two oil level sensors. It is split. There are two fuel tanks. One fuel tank has a sensor on one side. The right side can be replaced separately, and the left side is connected with the fuel tank. The fuel level sensor is inside the fuel tank and is integrated with the gasoline pump assembly. For replacement, remove the lower rear seat, open the upper reserved access cover and remove it with special tools.
Check the fuel level sensor fault, turn off the ignition and disconnect the connector on the fuel level sensor. Ignition on, test whether the voltage between the terminal 5 of the fuel level sensor ground circuit and the terminal 1 of the fuel level sensor signal circuit is within the specified voltage range; if it is lower than the specified range, test whether the fuel level sensor voltage circuit is short circuited to the ground. If it is higher than the specified range, test whether the voltage circuit of fuel level sensor is short circuited to voltage; If the voltage circuit tests normal, replace the engine control module.
